No Go Potty!
Posted on April 5th, 2009 3 comments
Oh, the joys of potty training. I will be the first to admit: I haven’t taken this whole process very seriously. I guess I thought it would be fairly easy. I never remember my niece refusing to go to the potty. So I thought I’d buy a really cool potty and just let nature do its thing. At this rate, we will be buying pull-ups until he’s 10 years old.
So all parents out there, please give me some tips. I’ve tried a few incentives such as mini M&Ms and I thought about hanging up a sticker reward chart. But are there any other things you’ve tried that have worked. If so, I would love to hear them.
I am officially ready for the challenge now and will report back on our progress. Wish us luck!

There are some really great potty training children’s books out there! They worked great for us! I have heard of little boys liking to pee on cheerios (it’s a fun target…lol)! My main advise it to be consistent, take Joseph to the potty every 30 minutes or every hour in the beginning; this should help him to be more successful!

Routine and consistency are very important. If he likes stickers, you could give him a sticker everytime he goes potty. If you want to do a reward chart, you could put it in the bathroom and let him put the sticker, star or smiley face on it after he goes potty.

I was a very fortunate mom whose toddler was ready to use the potty around age 2; however, I know many friends and moms of toddlers who express the same frustration. Though not the answer that most moms want to hear - I am a firm believer that children will go when they are ready. I’m sure my other two children will not be as easy to potty train as my first, so I’m sure I will be seeking similar advice in the years to come.
